Paphiopedilum esquirolei KARAWASA & SAITO

Synonym: Paph. hirsutissimum var. esquirolei
It is almost impossible to distinguish between the species mentioned below. paper esquirolei is said to have longer leaves, a long inflorescence and more hairs on the inflorescence than Paph. hirsutissimum.
Paph. hirsutissimum is found almost exclusively in India at altitudes of 1200 - 1900 m. Since there are hardly any imports from India, the Paph. hirsutissimum tends to be rare in cultivation.
Paph. esquirolei has a large distribution area and can be found from Thailand to China - it grows at altitudes of 500 - 1200 m.
Paph. chiwuanum grows exclusively in China at altitudes of 900 - 1450 m. The flowers are said to be only 6 - 8 cm in size.
