Paphiopedilum volonteanum STEIN

Synonym: Paph. hookereae var. volonteanum
Paph. volonteanum grows on Mt. Kinabalu in Sabah (Malaysia - Borneo).
This species has been found at altitudes of 600 - 800 m, but also in the highlands of 2200 m. The following plants come from the highlands and are actually to be cultivated in cold houses. This species is rather difficult to keep alive for a long time. It is to be hoped that the offspring of this species are easier to cultivate.

Paph. volonteanum grows here together with Nepenthes rajah at day temperatures of 18-20 °C and night temperatures of 10-12 °C. These temperatures were measured in August. While the Nepenthes grows without any shade from trees etc., the plants of Paph. volonteanum between 2 m high trees and shrubs.
