An "old" clone of Paph. victoria-mariae

In 2022/2023 in Germany there will be offered Paph. victoria-mariae. The flowers of these plants differ slightly from the well-known clone from Paph. victoria-mariae, which has been offered again and again since the turn of the millennium.

There is speculation that the plants currently on offer (right picture) could be a hybrid, but that is not the case.

According to Mr. Wichmann senior in the 1980 Paph. victoria-mariae was imported directly from Sumatra and was only propagated by division in the Wichmann nursery (Groß-Hehlen, Germany) in the following years.

In 2020, two plants from this stock were cross-pollinated and are now being offered again and again.

Ultimately, these plants are probably Paph. victoria-mariae, which were apparently collected many years ago from another location on Sumatra.
