Paph. vietnamense was only described in 1999 by GRUSS & PERNER.

At about the same time, the plant is also known as Paph. hilmari have been described. The description as paph. vietnamense took place on January 11, 1999, that of Paph. hilmari on 1/19/1999 - so the name is Paph. vietnamense valid, Paph. hilmari is a synonym of it.

Paph. vietnamense grows in northern Vietnam in the province of Cao Bang at an altitude of 1000 m - today there are hardly any plants of it in nature.
